Sarah Joyner, LPC
Owner and Therapist
Sarah has been a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia since 2012. She received her B.A. in Biology/Pre-Medicine from Taylor University in Upland, IN, and her M.A. in Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY. She is a native of Denver, CO, but has called Richmond, VA, home since 2007.
In meeting with clients, Sarah utilizes a holistic approach, viewing and addressing persons as whole beings, consisting of body, mind, soul, and spirit. Likewise, in her work with clients, Sarah integrates psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and IFS (Internal Family Systems) informed therapies in her work with adults, adolescents, and couples in their journeys toward health and wholeness. Sarah is also trained in utilizing EMDR (EMDRIA approved) with both individuals and couples.
Sarah’s experience and range of practice include such areas as family relationships, couples counseling, marriage issues, infidelity, forgiveness, postpartum issues, childhood issues and trauma, grief and loss, depression, and anxiety. Sarah is a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, with an emphasis on applied neuroscience for treating anxiety disorders. Also, as a certified Prepare-Enrich administrator, Sarah facilitates premarital counseling for couples. Sarah has completed the first two levels of Elijah House Training for inner healing work.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys time with her husband and three children as well as spending time outside, running, biking, taking long walks, reading great books, and making green smoothies.
